Have you ever had one of those moments when you tell your friends you are staying in this weekend and they look at you in open-mouthed astonishment as if you have just said something so offensive they can’t quite process it? Of course, we all love to go out when the week is done (and sometimes on an office night). After all, there are new bars to be discovered, dance floors to be conquered and parties at which to revel. But there comes a time when everyone needs a night in.

But staying in doesn’t have to be boring. It can be fun, entertaining, or just plain relaxing. Here are a few reasons why you might want to stay in this weekend.

Relax and recharge

There is only so much partying one person can handle, and just like a video game character, sometimes you need to stop and power up before you take on the next challenge. Staying in gives you the chance to relax, unwind, eat well, sleep well, and generally take some care of yourself. You can read a book, watch TV, do some yoga or relax in a hot bath – anything that leaves you feeling ready to take on the world again.

There are plenty of reasons you might need to recharge. You might have an important day at work, a job interview, a presentation to give or you might be preparing for a monster weekend of partying the following week. The important thing is to know when you are feeling burnt out and need to put the brakes on – regardless of peer pressure!

Have fun with friends or alone

Staying in doesn’t mean you can’t have fun. You could invite some friends round, dust off your old console and engage in some multi-player gaming, Guitar Hero axe-grinding or dance-mat battles.

If there is a major event on, such as Eurovision, you could have a themed night and turn your living room into party central. You could even dabble in some karaoke if you don’t mind upsetting the neighbors. If your friends have abandoned you in favor of the city lights, you could hook up with some other homebound souls and engage in a night of online gaming. Or if bingo and slot games are more your things, you could or fire up your tablet, log onto your favorite site, and play on Umbingo online. Who doesn’t love a bit of Bingo action?

A sophisticated evening

If you are feeling a little more highbrow, or have been watching too much MasterChef and want to test your cooking skills on some unsuspecting victims, you could organize a dinner party. The word ‘party’ usually suggests something a little wilder, but a dinner party allows you to handpick the people you most like to spend time with and treat them to a special night (or use them as guinea pigs for your culinary concoctions). It is a great way to forge friendships, put the world to rights and escape from the stress of daily life.

Alternatively, you could forget all this and just tuck yourself up in bed with your favorite box set. We all have those moments in life when we just have to answer the call of the duvet!
