Online gaming companies are transforming the gaming industry by creating new and exciting games to play. The millennials favor every part of online gaming, from multiplayer gaming to online streaming. In addition, Internet connectivity in a game opens up new possibilities for players by allowing them to locate and play against or with other players.
Croatia, like most other Eastern European countries, has caught up with the rest of the world when it comes to online gaming. With broadband internet connections becoming more common in many parts of the world, it’s not unusual to see gamers from all over the globe competing against each other in popular games like World of Warcraft and League of Legends. This opportunity allowed young Croatians like Luka “PerkZ” Perkovic to become professional esports players.
When it comes to popular online gaming brands in Croatia, there is plenty to choose from, being it your regular industry leaders from the gaming world, like Blizzard or Ubisoft, or from the igaming industries, like Betsson and their Rizk brand. Whichever you decide to take a closer look at, they all have a common thread connecting them for the past ten years – an impressive growth rate. Below, you can find out which brands are and how they manage in the online gaming industry.
Microsoft
While Microsoft continues to spend extensively on Xbox hardware, it focuses heavily on Xbox Game Pass. This monthly subscription service provides gamers access to a library of over 100 games for around $15. In addition, Microsoft’s plan includes cloud gaming, in which games are hosted on remote servers and streamed to players over the Internet.
Activision Blizzard
Activision Blizzard, Inc. is an interactive entertainment service, content creator, and publisher. Activision Publishing, Inc. (Activision), King Digital Entertainment (King), Blizzard Entertainment, Inc. (Blizzard) are the company’s segments. Blizzard creates and distributes entertainment software for game development.
Blizzard also runs Blizzard Battle.net, an online gaming site that allows for the digital distribution of Blizzard and Activision games and online social networking, and the development of user-generated content. King distributes content on the mobile platform. Candy Crush, a match-three game, is very popular in Croatia.
Sony
The PlayStation Network (PSN) is a video game and media content distribution service available online. Sony Corporation designed PSN to support its PlayStation 3 game platform. Over time, the service has grown to include support for the PlayStation 4 and other Sony devices and music and video streaming, although, at moments, it can feel a bit unmotivated.
PlayStation Plus is a premium membership program that comes with several perks. Most crucially, it’s essential for PS4 and PS5 online multiplayer, while PS3 has free online play. PlayStation Plus also gives customers free games every month. Sony’s digital marketplace for games, profile avatars, add-ons, and other related items is the PlayStation Store. Sony’s game streaming service, PlayStation Now, requires a separate membership.
Ubisoft
Ubisoft produces creative gaming experiences across all major platforms, including online multiplayer games worldwide enjoyed by millions of players. Ubisoft chose to move its Storm platform and many online multiplayer games to the cloud. They picked the Amazon Web Services (AWS) Cloud. Moreover, AWS had been used by other Ubisoft business divisions for several years to speed up the creation of new games and grow on demand.
Apple
In September 2019, Apple launched Apple Arcade, a mobile gaming subscription service. For $5 per month or $50 per year, Apple Arcade allows you to play games on your iPhone, Mac, iPad, iPod Touch, and Apple TV devices. Since then, the platform has had a steady growth of users discovering new ways of killing their time.
Apple Arcade allows users to download and play games without being connected to the Internet, and there are also plenty of online multiplayer games available. The downside is there is no streaming available. In addition to supporting various devices, Apple Arcade supports third-party controllers such as the PlayStation DualShock 4 for more diversified gaming.
