Some of us pick a hobby and tend to stick with it for an extended period; others are always chopping and changing hobbies to keep an element of excitement in life, as well as to continually stimulate their brains by learning new skills.
Whilst there are plenty of well-known options to choose from – and, trust us, with hobbies such as ‘beetle fighting’ in existence, there are many unexpected ones out there, too – lots of them tend to be on the more sedate end of the spectrum. For those wanting to try something new and stay active, there’s a range of choices you can test out. Some of them hark back to earlier decades, enjoying the limelight once again amid a social-media-driven resurgence, while others are relatively new or add an alternative spin onto an old favorite.
Have a read through our selection of three pulse-racing hobbies to get your teeth into and see which one(s) tickle your fancy!
Roller Skating
Once a popular past-time for every adult who wanted to be seen in their booty shorts, Lycra, and big hair at the roller-rink, roller skating dropped out of favor for a while. Due to the emergence of roller-skate dancing on TikTok and Instagram, however, roller skating, in general, has been enjoying a surge in popularity of late, leading to many strapping on their roller skates and venturing outside – no matter how terrible they are at first!
So, if this seems like something you want to try, why not strap on a pair of adult roller skates and move to the groove? You can even join the kids by posting your growing skills in Reels and TikTok videos.
Skateboarding
In the 90s and early 00s, Tony Hawk – a US pro-skateboarder – was the name on everyone’s lips. His name featured on skateboarding computer games endorsed various brands and was closely aligned with the grungy, pop-punk sounds of the times. With his online presence expanding in recent months, many people have been itching to get back on the dilapidated skateboards and kickflip their way on halfpipes once again!
Fun, a bit daring, and a complex skill to learn (but very rewarding when mastered), skateboarding is a great hobby for anyone – young or old. Why not grab a skateboard and join the fun?
Geocaching
This is a hobby for all the treasure-hunting, tech-lovers out there to enjoy! To get started, all you need to do is visit a Geocaching website and use your smartphone’s maps/GPS feature. This will help you to locate and seek out the boxes deemed Geocaches, in which there are small trinkets and treasures to swap alongside a logbook you can sign and date to share your adventures with others. Requiring navigational skills and taking you on a journey through various terrains in your area, it’s a much more fun way to go hiking or walking, and you can choose the pace at which you travel – so if you want to run or cycle to each destination, you can!
So, which of these exciting hobbies do you think you’ll give a try? And do you have anything you think belongs on this list?
