According to the Bureau of Labor and Statistics, an average American work 8.8 hours daily. The research found that in those eight hours, a person is only really productive for a total of two hours and fifty-three minutes.

So it’s possible that you’re only productive for only 3 hours a day and when you think about it, that’s not really a lot from the whole 24 hours that you get daily. Nowadays, it’s important that you actually become productive.

Productivity keeps your mind active, and this is simply good for brain function. Productivity doesn’t really mean that you have to work for more than 8 hours a day. The things you do outside work can also be part of your daily productivity.

However, do not confuse being busy over productivity. The difference between the two is that being busy means that you’re only doing things for the sake of doing them. Meanwhile, being productive means that you’re achieving a goal after doing work or task. It could be a simple or usual daily goal or a long-term goal.

This is why it’s simply satisfying to be productive. You get to feel like you’re accomplishing more things every day. It’s always a relief to check something off your to-do list, but sometimes it could be hard especially if you just have so many things to do.

Prioritizing the right things to do first is important, but here are more things that you can do to improve your overall productivity.

It may sound odd that this list is starting with a tip like this, but sleep is actually very crucial. An adult needs at least 6 to 8 hours a day of sleep. The truth is that sleeping is also being productive. It is when you let your body rest and be ready for your activities.

If you don’t have the time to complete a straight 6 to 8 hours of sleep in a day, then make sure that you still find the time to take short naps throughout the day. This would also help keep you alert and energized as you do your daily tasks.

Eat healthily

Eating is being productive, but eating healthy should be the way you eat. It’s very important that you eat at least three times a day as it helps you remain energized. Of course, you need the energy to do all the things that you have to do the whole day.

Choosing healthy food avoids energy crashes. Healthy foods are also more likely to keep you fueled throughout the day. Eating junk food can make you feel tired early in the day. An energy crash usually happens after eating too much or having foods that are high in sugar.

Find ways to make other tasks easier

Always try to find a way to finish a task easier. This will help you have extra hours that you can use to do other productive things. A good example is how you do your grocery shopping. With the booming industry of e-commerce, shopping for groceries online is now possible.

You can now avail grocery delivery services through your phone or laptop. Instead of spending hours on grocery shopping, you can now do more things instead. You no longer have to drive to the store and back home. Just choose the things you need to buy online, check out, and wait for your grocery items to be delivered.

Treat yourself every now and then

When you have too many things to do or if you have already done a lot of work and non-work-related things, burnout may happen next. This is the case if you don’t find the time to rest from all the work you did.

You may feel stress, and it could affect your overall mood. It could also be the reason as to why won’t be motivated to more things. While sleeping and eating healthy is important, it’s also a must to treat yourself from time to time.

Treating yourself could equate to a spa trip or picking up a new book. What’s important is that you do something that will make you feel relaxed and happy. This could help lessen the stress you are having and help you have a refreshed mind to face the things that you need to do.
