Using an e-cigarette to quit smoking is actually a pretty simple process; when you start vaping, just stop smoking. It might take your body a few days to get used to the change, but once you get through that, you’re not likely to miss the cigarettes at all as long as you’re using an e-liquid with the right nicotine strength for your needs. That’s the easy part. Suppose, on the other hand, that your ultimate goal is to stop using nicotine altogether.

High-nicotine vaping devices like JUUL help to make the switch to vaping easier because they allow you to change from smoking to vaping without reducing the amount of nicotine you consume. If you’re using an e-cigarette like JUUL, though, you’re using a high-strength e-liquid with a nicotine concentration of up to 59 mg/ml. It’s not easy to just stop using nicotine when the strength of your e-liquid is so high. It’s better to instead step down gradually so that when you finally stop using nicotine, your body won’t go through a difficult transition phase.

Third Stage: The Journey to Nicotine Free

It’s far more difficult, however, to make the final step down to nicotine-free e-liquid – so you’ll want to make that transition as gradual as possible. Start by reducing the nicotine strength of your e-liquid until there are no lower-strength bottled e-liquids available for you to buy.

The lowest nicotine strength that most e-liquid makers have available is 3 mg/ml. Most companies, however, also make nicotine-free e-liquids. So, to achieve nicotine strengths lower than 3 mg/ml, you’ll need to make your own in-between nicotine strengths by mixing 3 mg and 0 mg e-liquids together. The first step is the easiest. Keep track of the ratios that you use because you’ll probably need to make several bottles with the same ratio before you consider lowering your nicotine strength again.
